School Closure on Monday 11th December 2017

It is with regret that Roman Fields will be closed on Monday 11th December. I apologise unreservedly to parents/carers, our youngsters and staff. This isn’t a decision I have taken lightly. The latest weather report suggests that further snow will fall from 3am and continue until the early afternoon. Given that many of our youngsters and staff travel long distances by car and the roads are likely to be challenging, this decision has been taken with the safety of all in mind.

Welcome to the Roman Fields website. Roman Fields Provision supports young people who, prior to joining, have not experienced their full potential. All our young people have EHC plans; the majority of our cohort have Autism as their primary need, others SEMH and a small minority have a combination of both.

We strive to create an environment where each individual can flourish irrespective of their previous difficulties. We take a holistic approach to developing our youngsters from support for families to bespoke educational programmes leading to successful onward transition.

This success is built on a genuine collaborative partnership between governors, staff, SEN professionals, parents/carers and our young people; a partnership that has high aspirations for all and places the youngsters in our care at the heart of every decision. Visitors to Roman Fields are immediately struck by the respectful, calm and considerate atmosphere around our site, which mirrors the pride and commitment both our staff and youngsters have in our community.

Roman Fields was rated by Ofsted as ‘Good’ with ‘Outstanding’ safeguarding in October 2014. Please read the report, as we feel it accurately reflects our school. The Oftsed visit followed an additional comprehensive review of our practice in April 2014, which resulted in the award of Autism Accreditation. The visiting team from NAS commented on, ‘the never give up ethos’ and ‘staff should be celebrated for their persistent positive approach’, which is welcomed by families.

The NAS team visited again in 2017 and after a comprehensive 2-day review of practice they commented “overall the school achieves excellent outcomes and should take great pride in its achievements.”

Our recent examination results show that our endeavours are paying dividends in terms of both attainment and achievement:

  • English results 2017: 60% 4-9 (A*-C) or equivalent
  • Mathematics results 2017:  60% 4-9 (A*-C) or equivalent
  • Science results 2017: 71% A*-C or equivalent

There is a wealth of information on the website that I hope will give you a real flavour of our provision.
